I spotted another 1 going for a similar price as my 1st purchase, not 100% sure as to who it is but I have a tentative ID. Possibly - Visvasimha or Rudrasimha ii Not sure what to make of the punchmark, the only satrap I could find with punchmarks was Rudrasimha ii. Maybe this has something to do with his questionable lineage

I wont lie Bob, the legends are giving me nightmares at the moment I have based my tentative attribution on style alone, not the best way I know but until I get my head around how to read the legends that's the best I can do right now.

Bear in mind the legends are retrograde, so you'd have to look at the first linked image upside-down. It might be helpful to think of the three letters at 7:00 as a sort of stylized hIR.

I don't buy them for more than $5 unless the legend from 10:00-2:00 is clear and visible. Attributing them otherwise is a nightmare, since all you have to go on is the "Son of xxxxxx" all squished into one word. And this dynasty tended to pass the throne to brothers in order of age before the next generation became eligible for the throne.
At any rate, very glad to see more interest in these coins! They are indeed very much neglected and cheap... for now.

The price of these has ski rocketed in the last year or so, ones with a good legends cost over $75 and up. With the rarer satraps costing several hundred. I should have completed the set when I had a chance. You should try and get a Nahapana when you can.

My usual sellers post about 5 Nahapanas between them per week, and bidding usually stops in the $15-20 range for decent specimens. Maybe ebay is lagging behind other sites like Vcoins?

Wow, I'd like to know your seller. I usually buy from Vcoins, CoinIndia, and Alex Fieshman when he was still selling. I have seen a decent Nahapana sell for under $50.

This was the better of my two: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANCIENT-IND...4321?txnId=0The seller is alright, but the shipping discount is negligible (most similar sellers do +$0.25 or $0.50 per additional item; he does $0.50 off) and it takes FOREVER to get the coins. I do keep going back, because he has some good stuff that almost always ends at a fair price. There is of course risk involved, but I generally find that ebay is good as long as you can trust your sellers, and *really* know your stuff. Certain coins go through "fads" so to speak where bids will spike for a month or two, and then drop off and a $35 coin will become a $15 one suddenly. It's a double edged sword... the *really* rare stuff only comes out when a fad is in full swing.
