your coin is supposed to be Philip I Philadelphos 93-83 BC. Sear # 7196. I'll let you be the judge on this one. Here is one of mine for comparison.

Yes they look, to some extent, similar. Seems the face is a bit different and your coin has more words on the left side of the reverse. Do you think that the coins belong to two different rulers of the same era or belong to one?

What I wanted you to see is the difference in detail between the two coins. Granted your coin has wear, but even with the wear you can see how different the design detail is. Your coin lacks the detail that a know genuine coin does. I think yours might be cast. A picture of the edge would help to determine if it is or not.

Quote: I am enjoying the forum and the knowledge of its members. I hope so--we haven't been giving you too much good news so far. Please continue to post pics and listen to the feedback. Without divulging any personal information, can you tell us a little bit more about your grandfather and his collection? Did he focus on ancient Greece or is that just the first few coins that you have posted? Do you have any accompanying information about when or where he bought these? Would he have had some pretty significant disposable income when he was alive?

@spence your coin appears to be so new and my coin appears to be B.C. Please provide evidence about where your coin comes from?!

@yaz, just trying to establish some provenance here--not being nosy.
Also, I'm not sure which coin you are referring to--maybe the one under my name (my avatar)? It is from 1420 AD, so yes "new" by some folks standards.
