Hi
i am quite new banknote collector, decided to order one of each banknotes from official Clydesdale bank collectors place. Today when notes arrived I am more then disappointed regarding their quality. Firstly all notes were in large envelope, no protected sleeve or hard cover, and envelope was in soft special delivery bag. While some notes could be damaged in post I believe it is poor quality straight from bank, most notes are not centered, some have counting folds like I can get from cash machine, I would think from bank you should receive perfect notes. Bank charged me also 20% commission, which makes more angry. Anyway ill attach some photos and I would like some opinions as I am gonna complain to the bank, just need some arguments to say to the bank if other collectors agree with me.

I'm sure they were crisp, flat, UNC notes when mailed, but not any more. These will grade AU, or Almost Uncirculated. 'Almost'. The definition of 'Uncirculated' by the IBNS includes the wording 'a note that has not been mishandled by any teller'.

I don't know what their shipping policies are, but these were poorly handled. I would think a bank with a Collector's Desk would train the employee in selecting, handling, packing, and shipping notes that meet the standards to collectors. This material looks like it came out of an ATM. I know there are some collectors who will say 'well, it's technically still uncirculated', but this is nonsense. You used the services of a special Collector's Desk and paid a premium price for banknotes that enjoy a premium only in UNC condition.

I would return the notes immediately and demand a refund in full.

I just saw several ebay offerings of these exact notes, at more than 20% premium, of course. All the notes pictured were flat and without mechanical counting indents or creases, so clearly, to me, the bank is able to furnish notes meeting the UNC requirement to collectors.

I think you may have what is known as 'a teachable moment' with the bank.

(just check how were notes packed, so much better than last time, and cash I got for return postage in same bag).Hope you will never deal with this person I dealt with from Clydesdale Bank.

I have encountered a similar issue with the 'counting folds' in UNC notes before and was told that they were not counting folds but a result of the magnetic strip sealing process being fused with note. Anyone can back this up ?
