Hey @AgCoinAu, yes I will be there too. I'm happy that the coin show dates are not on the same dates as the Manitoba Comic Con. That way I can give my toy collecting brother a hand with scouting new collectibles.
Last Manitoba coin show I chatted with the former owners of North Main Stamp & Coin (or was that Coin and Stamp?) here in the Peg. A very nice retired couple who told me they do the Western Canada shows from time to time.
I also mentioned that, why have the coin show on the same dates with the Manitoba Comic Con, if you want to attract younger collectors?
They told me that the coin show is older than the comic con, and it was them that chose the same dates of the Manitoba coin show.
I'm also happy that this is a better venue location. Parking downtown and walking to and from the previous venue, I had to watch my 6 o'clock constantly.

Kool Kat... would love to see that! please bring it!!
Sifu: you bring up a pretty darn good point though.... I don't know how big the Comic Con is but it might even be worth investigating some sort of amalgamation from the two groups...
Collectors collect.... would be great to get more collectors under one roof at the same time!
Still not sure what I should bring.. never sold only hoarded.... any idea what would do well at this kind of show?

Sorry, I do not foresee this happening in the near future. The previous 3rd floor of the Winnipeg (now RBC) Convention Centre is packed for comic con, with the artist's emporium on the 2nd floor. With the near doubling of the old space, with the expansion, I expect a lot less claustrophobic feeling and more vendors. The comic con attendance numbers are staggering compared to the Manitoba coin show. When you become a father take your sons and daughters to a comic con, you will get what I mean. Hey there KoolKat, great that you are planning on going. Cheers to all.

WOW that's impressive!
I just might have to check it out! My son is just starting to get into the whole superhero stuff which would make the experience quite fun!

AgCoinAu, oh correction, so you are a dad already, my mistake. So as an aside from coin collecting, try to check out the Manitoba Comic Con at the end of the October. There is a website for it and I suggest going on a Friday and Saturday morning. The Sunday is the busiest. Lots of families get into costume as it is usually another Halloween or the after Halloween party for their kids. So it is very family friendly. The age demographic is a lot younger, with the majority of twenty something's there in full costume (Marvel, DC, PokeMon, Anime, Manga, etc). A lot of celebs also, toys, old toys that you grew up with, comics, gaming, and check out the artists emporium too. A reminder to wear good walking shoes, if you decide to go with your son. Again as an aside to coin collecting.

So I have to admit I have never sold a coin or note at a coin show before. However one dealer said they may save me some space in their case for me to put some of my items in.
I thought it would be a good opportunity to see how things are from the other side of the table.
Truth is that I really NEED to start selling my stuff anyways as I have a LOT of really low to mid range material and I would like to start to specialize as currently I'm all over the map.
What sort of material would do well at a show like this? What would others like to look at?
Any suggestions would be appreciated... also if there's anyone planning to go to the show and if they have a specific coin or two on their want list please don't hesitate to let me know if I have one I'll bring that too...

@ Ag sorry I did not get your email until this morning . I am in London England at Coinex 2016. Best thing to bring to a show and be on the other side of the table......friendliness and an engaging personality. The coins will look after themselves. That said maybe some oddities and interesting historical stuff. Everybody has the usual boring Canadian decimal. Some neat foreign or paper. The idea is to engage people and get them talking . These days I take very few tables at shows and usually just buy, go home and list on the net.

I think that was the trend today. I can't say for certain but my guess is that perhaps 100 people attended throughout the day. I was sitting at the gate west table, which also was a bit of a conflict for what to bring as they have just about everything in cdn decimal. I decided to bring some pre confederation maritime tokens and my set of 1937 notes that are all graded AU. I have to say the experience was great if you're a collector and want to just chat coins all day with other collectors. Made some new friends saw some older ones and it was nice to sit and listen to what others were interested in and what was on their want list. I only ended up selling three coins for the whole day but I think Chris from gate west had only sold two and one was to a friend that I told to come along and check it out. I think the best part of the day was seeing some of the other dealers circulat and either watch them buy or show off their pieces. I saw an old Vicky large cent that had a reeded edge.... Tht was cool and I also saw an HBC 1/2 made beaver that looked to be bronze and not brass.

Quote: I was sitting at the gate west table Really? I think I was at your table and I was at the Gate West Coins table for a few minutes on Saturday. I had a question for Chris regarding all the ICCS lower graded 5 cent coins for sale.

Quote: did you end up picking up a nickel from the 40's...? That would be a no. Actually I never purchased anything from that north side, only looked diligently. I went on the Saturday only as I was not feeling well, but I had to be there. I found I was hanging around Al and Brian on the south side. It seems both those two found new (i.e. old ) stock over the summer. Al showed me a 1893 Flat 3 dime in AU condition with gorgeous toning, I said, , then had sticker shock a few seconds later, then gently handed it back to him. I ended up filling a gap in my Canadian Queen Victoria quarters and making 2 upgrades to my collection. George Manz had nice coin items too, that would have blown my budget more than 10 times over. Till next time or I see you at the Manitoba Comic Con (better known as C4 Central Canada Comic Con)

The above Newfie 50 cent coin I bought from Al and I certainly enjoyed sitting on that side as well.... Al and Brian side by side made for some really interesting conversations.
I was impressed with the 14 year old who had a table set up... showed good promise for the future of numismatics... and he ended up buying a standing gold liberty from George Manz.. wish I had be buying up gold like that when I was 14!
