What are your thoughts on this Rhodes coin? Working on attribution. Obverse: Helios. Reverse: Rose and bow case; magistrate: Gorgos. 14 mm. 1.9 g. Would that make it a drachm or hemidrachm? Any concerns with authenticity?

Yes the porosity, especially on the obv, makes me nervous. I'll be interested to hear what others say.

Considering a drachms weighs 4g, yours would be a hemidrachm.

I see what appears to be some breaks in the silver, I think this piece might be a fouree. ( a ancient fake)

Thank you for the "welcomes," and the replies! About a year ago, I started a collection of ancient coins with an emphasis on Bible-related coins. I've enjoyed reading several posts in the ancients forum on Coin Community, and am learning a lot from this site and from some books I got. I too had some concerns about porosity, although I examined some photos of other Rhodes coins on the web and several of them had a similar appearance (not that I know if they were genuine either). Some of those were in the 2-2.7 gm weight range, and were labeled "drachms," but I though that was too light for a drachm based on another reference. I've learned to look at the edges, and saw no indication of casting there. The lettering also seems "sharp" vs "soft" (strike vs cast?) to my inexperienced eye. Never thought about the possibility of it being a fouree. I took some other photos on a black background, and one of the edge, hoping that they might help with the observations.
