After a long summer of avoiding the coin markets I went shopping around in Germany and found this gem in the auctions of that reputable dealer of antiquities whose name ends in "Z".

The price was surprisingly reasonable too !

An attractive, high-grade specimen. I'm assuming it is rare, especially in that condition. I think I would appreciate this coin more if I had more knowledge in Roman Imperials.

The reverse type is actually one of the most common of this emperor.
But I never shy from acquiring common coins if they have good 'eye appeal'.
What makes this one special to me is the pronounced thick green patina it has acquired over the millennia.
In an era when high quality modern fakes are finding their way into the hands of many collectors (and dealers too !)
this type of patina is your surest guarantee. Despite this coins beautiful condition (always a good reason to examine carefully)
the patination type allows one to be 99.99% sure it is the real deal !
