Hi, I'm Giedrius Bagdonas, Lithuanian, my special themes are Lithuanian half-groats of 1495-1529, Lithuanian groats 1625-1627, Lithuanian solids (schillings) 1614-1627, 1652-1653. Belarussian Dzmitry Huletski and me are writing the new catalogue „Coins of Grand Duchy Lithuanian 1495-1536" now.
Any information about the varieties of the Lithuanian coins 1495-1536, not included into previous catalogues, is welcomed. Edited by giedrius 09/15/2016 02:33 am

Especially looking for the pictures of half-groats (1508-1529) and groats (1535-1536) of Sigismund the Old. Each catalogue's picture of the coin, taken from You, will be followed by the name of the collector from whom the coin will be acquired.

Spence Thank You. We found more than the double ammount of varieties of coins , to compare with the Ivanauskas'2013 or Huletski'2014 catalogues. It's possible,that some, non typical varieties of denars and half-groats of Alexander Jagiellon still can be not included into catalogue (we almost finished with these coins) , we are working on Sigismund the Old Lithuanian coins now, and founding new, unpublished varieties each week! So I ask for the help and this great community too. And promise to show the catalogue there at first, when we will finish the job.

I'm still looking for old Lithuanian coins, unfortunately (right now my oldest Lithuanian coin is from 1666).

Spence Kopicki catalogue is'nt the best in Lithuanian Numismatics. Kopicki included only the main types of coins of each year. There are from 20 to 50 varieties of each year, you marked, Lithuanian half-groats, not included into Kopicki book. And I'm working specially on it. Some of them are very rare and interesting. So, please send me the pictures of Your coins, I'll recognize it by older Ivanauskas and Huletski catalogues, which are more and more widely, than Kopicki in Lithuanian coins, and I'll write You. Maybe we'll find the not published ones.

So,we are working on the book. There's too much unpublished, especially about the Lithuanian large groats of Sigismund the Old 1535-1536, so we decided to restrict our theme:the book will be about the early Lithuanian half-groats (1495-1529) only. The page of rough copy included ( the original issue will be in English only).

Thank You. We will include even 91 different varieties of Lithuanian half-groats of Alexander Jagiellon, and much more varieties of Lithuanian half-groats of Sigismund the Old, You can find in any catalogue today : year 1509 - 55 different varieties, 1510 - 32, 1511 - 30, 1512 - 61, 1513 - 74.... so, we hope, it will be the widest book about the Lithuanian half-groats of 1495-1529 for noon....

@giedrius, I'm wondering when you think that your book will be complete as I'm hoping to buy a copy. Also, I'm hoping that you will include pricing guidelines for the different varieties.

@Spence,
Yes, I'll show the book in this forum, when we will finish the job,and it will be the possibility to get the book.
We will begin the printing of the book in nearest two months,because we are in the middle of book designing and formating process now.
We will show the level of rarity of each variant of coin from I (1-2 examples known) to X (most common), but, to be honest, it's impossible to show the pricing of Lithuanian half-groats today. And we will not include the pricing into our book. The reason - some large hoards,founded last years in our area. I worked with the hoard, about 10 kilograms weight, when the weight of one coin is about 1.2 gram.....so, the price of Lithuanian half-groats is lowest ever today, You can find very interesting examples for 10 usd only, and this is one more reason to collect these coins.

The varieties of Lithuanian half-groats of Sigismund the Old shown in http://goccf.com/t/195589 theme. I begun to include the pictures of coins from my collection from year 1529 (this is the last year of Sigismund the Old Lithuanian half-groats mintage) and will last to do it until 1509. We have the written sources about the Vilnius Mint working from February 1509, not earlier.

Ok well good. I'm looking foward to the completion of your book (as I'm quite sure you are too). I do note that there seems to be a dearth of pricing information for collectors of medieval Lithuanian and Hungarian coins. As you know, I use Kopicki for Polish coins, but there is plenty not listed there. The Krause series of pricelists don't start until 1600 AD so there seems to be an information gap.
