Is the coin on the left the small date 1970S penny? It almost looks the same, but the seven looks shorter.

Their both Lrg date. Visit this website..... good info. As well as Small/Large Varieties.

All large dates. The easiest way I've found is to check the inside loop of the 9. If it points to the middle of the 7 it's a small date. If it points to the bottom of the 7 it's a large date.

MorgansRmine is correct. On circulated coins the shape of the 9 gives them away. On uncirculated or proof coins, the crease in the 7 gives them away immediately, but I know this can be damaged or removed with wear.
