Composition: 99.8% copper, balance trace metals
Origin of Copper: Sheathing removed from USS Constitution's hull during maintenance, 1974 and after.
Diameter 1 ½ inch
Weight: 23.11 grams
Quantity Struck: 5000 pieces plus 200 for the artist
Struck At: Providence, Rhode Island, 1999

Obverse:
USS Constitution in portrait under sail with the inscription "USS CONSTITUTION/ OLD IRONSIDES"
Reverse:
A 24 pound long gun in detail with the inscription "The Ship! Never Has She Failed Us!" ~ William Bainbridge

Purchased many at the Museum at the initial offering in 1999 at Charlestown, Massachusetts. We toured the USS Constitution upon being part of a tour. Great experience and a very fine warship. We usually do not purchase medals but the situation presented itself so we purchased. Why, don't know.

* By the way, we have a good collection of Lincolns 1909 to present: rolls and all mostly near MS65 and 64 Red. Pretty much lost interest on the new Lincolns. Some slabbed specimens, namely a 31s 64 MSRB.

Yes, that is very nice. I love that the copper for the medal actually is from the USS Constitution! I am sure it is like holding a bit of history in your hand.
