Yes it looks like a clip error. More close up pictures off the area 180 degrees from the error would help me more. Louis

They call this a clip, referring to it as a straight clip, but nothing in the cutting process makes a straight clip. It is actually over the edge of the stock material when this was cut. So I just refer to these an in incomplete planchet.
I would like to see this coin naked (not me, out of the 2X2) to see if the obverse/reverse letters fade along the straight edge area.
Also an image of the edge of the coin in that area to see if it is irregular.

I don't see any weakness in MER. Almost looks like the edge is beveled on both sides. like it was ground down.

Funny Coop. Looks like I have more pictures to take! I don't have equipment though so there's only so much I can do.

Practice make perfect. Try getting an image through a magnifying glass or something else.

It looks like a genuine straight clip. There is weakness in the adjacent lettering as a result of metal flow.

Still, this is only a guess, since the photos are poor.

I can't see the edge of the coin real good, and the tops of the letters on AMERICA, but everything else looks correct. So I'm calling this an incomplete planchet. (straight clip)
