Kiangnan province, dollar, undated (attributed to 1898), reeded edge, KM/Y# 145.

If it's a fake, it's a pretty good one. Good enough to fool me, anyway. My only concern is the obverse rim looks rounded off, as if it had been ground away; this is done on the better fakes, to try to hide the telltale split-reeding from the ring die.

Thanks Sap.

Should I send the coin in for grading? I don't know if its worth it.

I agree with SAP - that rounded edge looks bad and in addition part of the rounded edge shows long lines that run around the circumference - "mechanical abbraision"? Could be they held the coin against a grinding wheel and rotated the coin.

Grading is your call, but in my experience you often do not get a CLEAR answer. If they suspect a counterfeit they often body bag the coin and say IMPAIRED SURFACES. I have also submitted counterfeits (which I knew were fake beyond all doubt) an two came back slabbed!
