I suppose that depends on how much you want to pay for it.

Honestly, I have no idea, but there is some truth to that...

Hi Corey,
Welcome to the forum! Thanks for providing the link. I'm no expert on VAMs so I'll wait to hear input from those who are. If this is truly a new, rare VAM then it will be worth whatever people are willing to pay for it. The market will decide the value - it was something like $115 when I checked the auction. Not too shabby.

But I would be careful about spending lots of money on a unknown quantity. It may turn out to be very common - or very minor. That's just my own opinion however. And my cynical side would be sure to ask whether the coin in the auction is the actual coin in the Van Allen letter. There are many dishonest people out there. Again, that's my opinion.

I agree with everything Patrick has stated thus far. It is really only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

The one thing that bothers me about the auction is that there are really no close up pics of the actual coin itself. The seller does show close up pics of the VAM description from the documentation, but if I were to bid on this auction I would definitely ask for closer pics of the coin. I am in no way saying that the coin is not authentic, I just prefer better pictures, especially if I am shelling out a lot of money for something.
The seller does offer a return policy, so if you aren't happy at least you have some recourse.

I agree also, just because this is the discovery piece (new ones are being found every day) doesn't really mean this is a rare VAM, it just means this is the first one discovered which may be worth a small premium over a 1892-S in the same grade if there are allot more found to maybe a huge premium over a regular 1892-S if there aren't that many more found within the coming years of its discovery. The only thing we know is this will be the only discovery coin that will exist but that doesn't really mean a whole lot unless the VAM it represents is found to be a rare and popular with VAM collectors

Close but no..... it depends on what Corey gets for it.

Unless it's a coincidence that he spammed this in 3 different forums and his IP puts him exactly where the coin is.
