Going through my old coin box I see a 1980 10¢ in there that I put away from change 28 years ago. What a pity I didn't continue putting away fresh coins from each year until now. It would have only cost face value. I could have had an UNC set for most years had I done that. My present circulated coin sets look pretty sad. They could have been so much better.

Oh well live and learn I suppose.

A very nice coin that only cost 10¢. Ain't hindsight a wonderful thing. I often wonder where my crystal ball was when I needed it.

I also kick myself
I was living in Canberra when we went decimal and I unfortunately did not become a collector until the late 90s when I was already an Expat living in the US trying to reconnect with home

I think of all the coins I let slip through my fingers at the local shops.

But I did manage to keep some commemoratives and special medal sets that were presented to me while still living at home.

Yes I also kept the first commemorative coin, the 1970 Captain Cook 50¢. I was only 6 then. In my teens in the late 70's I started collecting world coins. I continued to put away any commemorative 50¢ coins I came across. Of course everyone else does the same thing and so they are worth very little!

The bog standard circulation coins are generally ignored by the general population, except perhaps for the first year of issue so it's very difficult to find early years in high grade anymore. Of course you all know that.

Oh well mint sets are still available but the early years are getting pricey now.
