Hi.
I dug this coin up as I was digging below floor level in my house.
Can anyone identify it?

to CCF..

While many are against cleaning coins, if this were my coin I would put a drop or 2 of olive oil on each side & rub it in with my fingers.. I've done this with about 50 medieval coins..

@DJB2016, first welcome to CCF.

Second, I agree with @broken-coin about the olive oil. There is some encrustation which is covering up the inscriptions. I can recognize a Roman Numeral three in the first pic---that is most likely the denomination of this coin. One the back, I can make out "DG PO", which suggests to me that it is from one of the German City States, Poland, the Holy Roman Empire, etc.

If you can post new pics with more detail, someone here should be able to give you more info.

Hi.
Thanks for the welcome and the advice.

I have had a go at cleaning the coin with olive oil and there are more details revealed.

It does look very similar to the Portuguese coin although there is no date below the 3.

If it is Portuguese, I am going to be left wondering how did it get to Devon in the UK.

Clearer pics definitely help, but I think that SLZ was on the right track. I jumped to "PO" being the start of Poland rather Portugal.

Anyways, here is an even more similar coin, with the date in the obv inscription rather than below the denomination.

That would mean that your obv pic is almost perfectly upside down. If I squint, I think that I see the number 2 at the end of where the date should be. With additional, but careful effort, you might be able to further enhance the inscription and get the full date.
