I just picked up this 37 Buffalo. The coins detail is razor sharp, the obverse has a wire edge about 50% around. The surfaces are not deep mirror but are reflective and semi proof-like to me. I've never owned a Proof Buffalo but this one has many characteristics of a proof. If not a proof, could it be a circulation strike made from proof dies once the proof run was completed? I'm looking for opinions on this one.

I think it's a well struck business strike. There's not enough detail on the buffalo, and the letter edges look a bit too rounded to be a proof IMO.

I'd go for a well-struck business strike. These can look rather deceiving, but once you see one you'll know it. The rims are super sharp.

I can see why you thought this could be a proof . Great strike . But I'm going with above comments . I would give it MS-68 .

Thanks guys, that was my thinking too but just not sure. My photos really don't show how great the surfaces are and the proof appearance of them. There's a couple marks on the Buffalo's back so I think grade wise this one won't get above MS-64 semi-PL or 65 semi-PL.

It's a beauty, but I'm in the well populated business strike camp. I thought I'd nabbed a P or at least PL of one of these from the same year, 1937, and was so sure I sent it in to NGC.

Came back as a MS 66 so I broke even considering the TPG cost.

Gorgeous strike!

I picked up a 1913 Type 1 that my Shop in Eugene sent in thinking it was a proof, gorgeous strike like this! Unfortunately, it came back as just a normal strike, and very undergraded(luckily for me, I got a great deal on it from them).
