I like many here love to show off finds from roll hunting. However, on Tuesday I bought a $25.00 Loomis box of pennies which I just finished and it shattered all my previous records but for all the wrong reasons. I have come home with a few boxes that were all new pennies, it happens to us all but this box was a special stinker in every regard. Here's the earth shattering records broken in one box. Wheat pennies - 0 This is a first for me. Never have I searched through 2,500 pennies and not come away with a single wheat. My lowest ever was five or six, this box failed to produce even one. Heck a 44 or 58d would have been welcomed. Canadian pennies - 2 Another record shattered. The two Canadian pennies, 1970 and 2009 are by far the lowest total of Canadian pennies I've ever come across by a wide margin. 2009 Pennies - 1 I keep the 2009 series as long as they are in good condition for no other reason than I like to. This gem of a box yielded just a lone Professional Life. Again another record breaker for lowest total ever by a large amount. Pre-82 coppers - 212. Finally this one completes the stink that was $25.00 worth of rolls. On average I usually roll between five and seven dollars in coppers. This box yielded a putrid two dollars and twelve cents. I kept going thinking my luck had to change and I would be rewarded in my search but this box stayed true to form and will forever stay with me as the record box of futility. Anyone want to share their worst box totals? I may need a break after this one. Edited by TMK65 10/06/2016 5:03 pm

The first box my son and I did. I actually bought it for him for his birthday. 1 Wheat penny (50's I believe), 2 canadians. I'm sure we got a handful of 2009's that he saved, but I didn't count. Luck for us, that remains as the worst box we've done. We did get a box with 2 wheats and 4 canadians about 3 months later...

Silver lining... the rolls could have been full of wine corks with a penny shoved at either end!
The first, last, and only dime box I ever did was a waste of two hours. No silver, no foreign, no proof or even BU, and one 2009. Didn't even have fun searching it.

My experience. Got a box of local bank wrapped rolls. Each coin in the roll was facing obverse or reverse per roll. Living in a rural area I knew there was a CRH or an OCP person. Not sure if I did find any goodies but went back and asked for Fed wrapped with older coins only. There is a burn out going through cents,IMHO. Unless you are John1,

Funny you should mention that Brian. I have six boxes to go through and then I am thinking about taking a long break. John 1

I got 2 boxes of Canadian 1 cents from our credit union one day and both boxes were full of 2007 rolls of magnetic BU. Not such a disappointment as much as what I was going to do with them, so I sold a few rolls and kept the most of them, boxes make good door stops.

This is one of the main reasons I usually don't get full boxes... I like to sample say 10-25 rolls of what the teller has, and if it's good, I'll go back and get the rest of it... if not, I won't.
Just the other day, I got 37 rolls of cents from various sources... mostly CWR, and I got ONE lonely wheat: a 1945. Another time, I got 25 rolls of nickels from a teller, and got only 2 pre-60s... I also got 12 MWR of nickels from a teller earlier this week and got a pre-60 skunk...
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

I sorted through a much better box Friday and Saturday. Sixteen wheats which included a 1929s. The 29s is a first and a hole filler.
The oddball of the group was a Denver Mint uncirculated token in excellent condition. Still, I think I'm going to take a break from pennies and try my luck at some rolls of nickels. I've searched dimes, quarters and half dollars but never nickels. It should prove interesting.

Sorry to learn of your 'bummer box' ... it happens if you CRH long enough. Quote: try my luck at some rolls of nickels. Now you're speaking my language. In my humble estimation ... the Jefferson nickel circulation strike set 1938 - Date is the only USA coin series that a CRH fan could have a reasonable chance of completing. It's takes some effort however ... my set was completed at 320,800 nickels searched. Let us know how you do on them. David

Thank you David. I look forward to putting a set together. I have found some nickels in circulation which I kept over the years so it will be fun to build around it. Nickels I have on hand are 1908 1911 1937 1941 1943s (Yes it's an S and I've kept it for almost twenty years.

Do you folks ever go through some of these rolls, to cherry pick a gem mint state coin (MS-67 or better)? I have had pretty good luck with boxes of mint rolls...
