That is one good looking 78 year old nickel! And you found him among the Canadians.

No big deal . US coins have circulated freely in Canada since the 19th century . These days you do not see as many because of the 1.30 plus exchange rate. Because of the SanFrancisco , Seattle , Victoria maritime trade route to the Yukon and Alaska gold fields in the 1890's there are bucket loads of Seated and Barber coinage , not to mention Indian Head cents and Buffalo nickels and Morgan dollars found in BC at coin shops and in collections. The first regular issue Canadian Coins to really circulate west of the Rockies was around 1892. Before that British and American gold and US silver coinage was in every day use in British Columbia.

That's an amazing circulation find! The extreme crispness of all the coins' details--as well as its perfectly clean surfaces--makes it look almost like a proof strike. Or rather, a proof-like strike.

No big deal, he says, as if a 1938 that good looking grows on trees down here.

Very pretty coin! Most importantly though, is there anything on the back such as a mint mark? Last week I found both an EF 1938-D and an EF 1938-S in LOOMIS rolls along with MY star, an AU-55 1939-D.

@Earendil, Quote: I thought I had something that was at least out of the ordinary, but the one that is the focus of this thread looks to be WAY better than it. Why post? Start your own post and let the OP enjoy and learn. IMHO Nice find pennypincher1.

I was really hunting for more up to date American nickels, I did mange to snare a 2014P which was new for me and I finished off a modern Canadian nickle book with a 1970 a scarce beast to find. Thanks for all your comments and here is the reverse got a bit of the shakes with this side, well these great finds do make your hands quiver. P.

Cool... thanks for the pic of the reverse. I'd grade that AU-50. Probably a $1.50-$2 coin depending on which price guide you use. Not bad at all!

Nice find. Nicer than any 38-P than I have found.

pacific - "no big deal"?
I live in the U.S. and would be ECSTATIC about finding a first year issue from any U.S. series in that condition.

All in context... you have to bear in mind that Pacificoin is a dealer. I have already slapped his wrists in other threads whereby he said roll hunting was a "waste of time"...
I think it is pretty cool to find one that old, in another country, in that condition...
