My local coin shop is selling a 50 dollar confederate. I don't know allot about confederate paper but I've always been standoffish about high dollar CSA notes that don't have redemption marks on the back. I've uploaded some high resolution photos to my Flickr account. Please take a look and let me know what you think. And thank you for your time!!

The glare and poor focus makes it difficult to give an opinion.

I can't tell from your photos if the Signatures are printed in black or brown ink..
If the latter it okay, if black, it's not genuine..

I am leaning towards real on this one. I'm going on memory here, I believe it is an 1864 $50 note. The reason I say that is most if not all had the printed block type serial numbers in 1864. Prior to that most CSA notes had the hand written serial numbers. Also, I think it is real due to the uneven cuts to the paper. Most CSA notes were cut by hand and with scissors resulting in many uneven cuts.

This note is not super rare in the CSA note world. Based on your pictures I would say authentic in great condition. I would put a price on it anywhere from $75-$125. It is a nice example.

This note should be checked out before purchasing.

I know there are exceptions, but as mentioned by Broken-coin,
the signatures should be more of a rust/red brown look.
The ink used back then had iron in it, it would rust and
change color. It might have change late in the war.
The only printed signature notes I have seen, were
50 cent notes.

I have seen other member reference a source that had known
S/N's of fake notes ... maybe someone will jump in with that info.
