Wow now that is a thing of beauty. He addressed the shortcomings of the Peace dollar to make it a true work of art!

Every one of these he makes means one less genuine Morgan or Peace dollar outstanding.

Oh, my aching wallet. I'd get the 2-ounce Peace but I don't know how I would store such an odd size, and I'm not fond of the "failure" text anyway or the overlay on the other obverses. So it's the ordinary fantasy overstrike for me (which, naturally, is the most expensive). I'm not big on Morgans, but the 1964-D proof-like design looks very nice as well. Quote:Every one of these he makes means one less genuine Morgan or Peace dollar outstanding. I have been wondering about this... The overstrikes look very clean and unblemished. I would hope that the genuine pieces used to make these are in otherwise undesirable condition (worn, spots, etc.) so they would not be greatly missed. Would cleaning and other processing, or "junk" condition in general, make them unworkable for overstrikes?

Don't fret. Dan uses lesser grade common date Morgan's and he actually prefers details coins unless they are so harshly cleaned they have lost too much weight. He is also a VAMmer and variety collector and checks each coin for valuable varities before he starts to process them. There is absolutely no reason to care that he transforms sub-par coins into works of art. I sometimes think he should have named his business "The Phoenix Mint" because he takes common undesierable coins and transforms them into highly collectible pieces of art

Thank you for that explanation, Cascade. That's what I was hoping for -- gives new life to coins that otherwise would have been destined for melt into something else.

Yes, I use generally undesirable coins. When I buy a batch of Morgan or Peace dollars for over-striking, I set aside any better dates and varieties. Even common-date EF-AU coins are saved. So, to be over-struck, they must be common date, not a desirable variety, and VF or lower. Polished coins are definitely good candidates.

Good Grief. The Fake coins are bad enough, Now these Fake errors. The "This is Art" BS excuse was bad enough for the fake coins. How do people justify these Dan Carr "Mint Sport" errors? They are certainly NOT "Art", What's next Manufactured split planches with both sides "Miraculously" found together ?
