I have been collecting mostly pennies since late 2010. I was influenced by watching some youtube videos about coin roll hunting and thought that I could find some great finds as well.
I was 11 at that time and I started by looking through mom and dad's change. At first, I only found some copper memorials, but my first wheat was found at the local
Wal-mart. It happened to be an early
Wheat penny from the teens, but the last digit wasn't legible.
A few days later, at another local grocery store, out pops a 1957-D in AU condition. I was quite surprised that I found 2 wheats within the span of a few days.
After that, I asked my mom to go to the bank and buy a few rolls from there. I am lucky that the tellers there today are still friendly to me as a coin collector, but anyway, my mom bought about 3 rolls of pennies and in those 3 I found a 1949-P. After that, I was hooked as I am still looking for valuable coins today.
My best finds include a 1912-S, 1912-D, 1883, 1906, and 1907 Indian Heads, as well as from a bag of pennies, a wheat hoard of over 250 wheats. That is where I found the 1912-D. I also am starting to collect varieties. I have found 3 1998 WAMs, what I believe to be one of the numerous 1960-D RPMs, and my best find, 1972-D 1DO-001, which I am trying to get decent pictures of.
That is my story of how I got hooked into pennies, and I hope to find some more great finds and valuable ones someday.
