Hi, I'm hoping somebody may be able to help in identifying this item? I've spoken to a few people with a keen interest in ancient coins and all have suggested a coin die. I have taken mounds of the insert but as my knowledge is minimal I am unable to quite make it out. However, there is definite marking around the circular insert (as in lettering) then either a profile (but I am convinced that it shows 2 faces looking in the opposite direct?) the circular insert measures just 12.7mm diameter. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you for reading.
Claire

I don't know much about ancient coin dies, but I'm inclined to say it isn't one- the die face would never be recessed in the die like that, since after striking it would be very difficult to remove the coin.
Rest in Peace

Hi Claire, I'm new and just saw your post here. I don't know what it is for sure but it MAY be one of two things. How about a wax stamp maker for letters or documents. The thing that strikes me the most is, how about a German Notgeld Porcelan or Iron coin caster circa. 1920-22? My #2 wild *** guess may be close, enclosed are pix of porcelan and iron coins of that time... red 1921 is half dollar size and 1920 iron is quarter size. Hope this helps

Sealing wax stamp mould in my opinion. A master mould was created to be placed into the frame, wherein metal could be poured and cast for use as sealing wax stamps.
