Hello folks! A friend of mine has asked me to get some opinions on several coins that he has come across... there are some interesting ones, some of which, I believe to be counterfeit, and I will be posting several of them around the boards to get some opinions... I am embarrassed to even say, I don't know if this is a half dollar or a dollar! Pennies are my thing--not silver. Everything I have googled, they both look the same... actually, this is one of the coins I suspect to be counterfeit. Anyway, the dark mark you see on the reverse, is on the holder, not the coin.... Your thoughts?

I agree with you two! But can you share with me what exactly made it stand out as counterfeit to you?

Looks like a Chinese counterfeit. Compare the details of a genuine coin with the one you are showing us.

It appears to be die struck rather than cast, but the details are so poor that it is obvious that it is not even a good fake.

Quote: can you share with me what exactly made it stand out as counterfeit to you? Other than the glaring issues with the design, the most obvious indicator is the fact that this thing was struck with a collar, something not done until the 1830s.
