I found a 1972-D 1DO-001 rather recently out of a lot of about 10 penny rolls from the bank. It was pretty awesome when I found it, but anyway, I want to post pictures of it, but I can't really capture the doubling because if I zoom in too much, it gets out of focus.
I do use the close up setting on my Nikon Coolpix L820, but I can't seem to capture the doubling on it. Can anyone give me tips on how to capture the doubling nicely so everyone can see it clearly? I have tried multiple lighting angles to no avail.

I have a USB microscope camera, its a low cost 2MB. I have 2 posts that I placed pictures. Check them out and see if that's what your trying for. BTW, I just learned how to use this camera from reading posts yesterday about photographing coins.

You may be able to use a loupe, then focus your camera on the loupe, and get a decent pic. Many folks use this method, but you must keep the loupe and camera both steady to get a clear pic. Try a lower power loupe, maybe 5-7x. Position it so it is focused well looking at it with your eye. Then put the camera where your eye was, and take the shot. Crop away the parts of the pic you don't want, and you should end up with a decent shot of the doubling.

Zooming in with a digital camera only works if you have a tripod or copy stand. Holding it with your hands will create shake and blur, the key to good macro photography is zero movement of the camera itself.

I know this post is super old but just in case someone passes by to try getting the same info I'm trying to get, I though I would at least put in my " Two Cents in" (ha ha ha like that?) Anyways, I downloaded apps from searching "magnifier". I would upload the pics of what the icon looks like from the 2 different ones I use now (I've tried 5 magnifier apps total)however I'm most certainly not even remotely computer savvy and with the imposition of all the specifications and rules to obide by when it comes to uploading pics, it completely confused and frustrated me. I became so perturbed after all the work I put in editing and cropping the perfect pics to display that I was inquiring about, and on the last step I realized there was a bunch of qualities they had that didn't meet the requirements. I'm now on a different forum that meets my needs a lot better! Anyways, if your still reading, then I apologize and thank you for continuing through my rant lol. Those apps aren't perfect of they help a buttload. Also, just like a few people on here have already mentioned, I sometimes even use an 8x loupe held up to my phone lens when I want to get real close up. It's is however very tedious that I always use the "freeze" icon first before taking the pic. I've also found an enormous magnifying glass at Hobby Lobby that is only like 2x-3x but just that, in addition to the app makes a real difference and is much easier to manuever. Lol with the smaller ones, I've had to buy loupe after loupe because I'm trying so hard to control the camera, the loupe, the coin, and the lighting, and still manage to freeze a pic perfectly in focus, that I tend to drop them all the time and scratch the glass which btw makes it much harder to work around when holding up a scratched loupe to the tiny phone lens, and still manage to take a non-fuzzy pic. I know I practically wrote a novel here but I hope it can help someone in the future. Good luck!
