I believe this 1938 Canadian silver dollar is matte finish

The reverse definitely has a nice strike, but the obverse not so much. I think it's a business strike. The matte finish that you see is (I think) from dipping. The pictures also look like scans, which might be causing that dipped/matte finish look.

It's a business strike.
There were no Matte finish Silver Dollars in 1938.

Looks like EF/EF+ details. It does look rather dead. If those images are scans, that could explain it. If they are photos under decent light, it's definitely been dipped so badly it would be called cleaned. Not a matte specimen, that's for sure.

BTW, What's with the recent obsessions with matte finish coins on here lately?

Any original luster has been flushed off the coin.....1938 is still a minor key date though.

It looks like a scanned coin to me and, one can never get a real good look at the details.
