I'm thinking about purchasing a U.S. Marine Corps Bicentennial Bronze Medal and a Navajo Code Talkers Bronze Medal as gifts for friends.

I searched through the forum and found some positive comments from members about the Bronze medals in general:

Any other comments about these bronze medals, in terms of their appeal, which size is better, etc.?

Thanks!

Mark

You can't go wrong with modern US Mint medals in my opinion. My only suggestion, is that you don't purchase these particular medals from the US Mint; you will find these much cheaper on ebay and elsewhere.

The 1.5'' are cheap, and are almost always found in gem or close to gem condition (especially those produced since the late 1980s). You will not find a U.S. Marine Corps Bicentennial Bronze medal in this size, however, since they weren't produced in this size.

The 3'' medals are truly amazing to behold, especially for collectors who have never seen them in hand before. Their relief is much higher than that of the ATB pucks. You can find both the Marine Corps Bicentennial and Navajo Code Talkers medals in this size. If you look for a Marine Corps Bicentennial medal in this size on the secondary market, you will find many different surface finishes. This is because the US Mint has changed up their manufacturing/finishing process over the years, resulting in many different appearances for medals of this diameter. This particular medal has been produced since the 1970s.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other specific questions or need help locating any of these medals.

Thank you so much ErrorCoins222! That is exceptionally helpful - much appreciated!

I wanted the gifts to be pretty nice because these are two of my really good friends. One is, as you might imagine, a Marine, and the other is a Navajo man I dated a while back. Although we broke up, we are still good friends.

At any rate, these sound like they will be awesome gifts! Now off to the hunt on ebay and elsewhere for a good deal on a couple of pristine Bronze medals!
