I believe APMEX has a good reputation. Wait for more opinions. I haven't bought a lot of gold.

I got the gold LSQ today. Now that is a coin! It is .25% gold and comes in a nice case. Most of the existing LSQ's are in such bad condition it is awesome just to see what one in perfect condition would have looked like. I think this gold coin that sells for less than $500 will be a hit. One per household. The other gold coins you can get on ebay.

To CCF I have used APMEX and Provident mint with no problems. If you buy a slabbed coin from a good seller, ebay can be okay too. If you get a slabbed coin, PCGS or NGC would be your best ... or only ones you should choose. I also would consider getting a 1oz gold buffalo, at least check them out. Both gold eagle and gold buffalo are U.S. Mint coins.

JM BullionProvident Metals I have purchased plenty over the years from these two outfits and they are very reliable. all good companies. AMPEX is overpriced slightly compared to the rest.

First, welcome to our great forum and community we have here! Secondly, I have a few thoughts- I own both gold bullion and proof eagles. While I like both coins, I prefer the elegant and majestic presentation that you get when you buy the proof 1 oz eagle coin. Just love the proof finish and the whole presentation the US Mint does. Granted, I did grow tired of eagles but they are a beauty in their own right. So again, take a look at the proof. My second thought is you might be able to get a MS69 or PF69 coin, such as an 1 oz type, for a fair price from an auction off of ebay. I would suggest looking at MCM when they run their auctions. Many times the auctions go a tad lower than the Buy It Now price. Finally, again, you can purchase directly from the US Mint a gold proof or uncirculated 1 oz eagle. hope that helps, this is a great time period to be buying gold coins.

The APMEX price today for the gold buffalo bullion coin is only $1 more than JM ($1408 vs. $1407), whereas Provident is at $1399 (all are cash prices). When you look at CC prices, they are at $1467, $1466, & $1457. APMEX & Provident also list buy prices of $1353 & $1354 (but those prices are usually for large buys). JM offers free shipping on all orders, APMEX & Provident offer it on orders of $100 or more. All prices are likely to follow spot, which is at $1340 as I write this. The proof buffalo from the mint is at $1690 today (plus at least $4.95 shipping)

You have to ask yourself if you want proofs or bullion? I dealt with JM Bullion and Provident. Both process orders very quickly, but I prefer Provident because I can use an e-check and get the cash price.
