Does anyone know of how we the collectors purchase the last prefix 2014 and 2015 $5 & $10 notes? Why did the RBA stop sell them to the general public? Now it breaks my heart to see examples of the EA15 $5 Note selling at over the top prices $475 plus on ebay. Not happy

It is a farcical situation. My only advice would be to be patient. The coloured $2 coins went for ridiculous prices on ebay at first but if you wait a few weeks you can get them at a fraction of the price. With the first and last prefixes I will be waiting to see what price the market settles at after a few months.

My understanding is this: 2014 $5 - Printed but not issued 2015 $5 - Printed but only issued to collectors as part of a set with the new note 2014 $10 - Not printed 2015 $10 - Currently circulating in Sydney
Most of the old $5 notes will soon be destroyed, because there's no justification for keeping them now that the new ones have been released. In an ideal world, they'd sell both the 2014 and 2015 ones to collectors, but they seem to only be doing the latter at this stage.
You can get the 2015 one from both Australia Post and Downies, but I don't think you're able to choose the prefix. Basically, it all comes down to luck, and those lucky enough to get a first or last prefix are going to make a lot of money out of it.

Quote: It would seem that the 2015 notes have been released into circulation. There are bundles of them for sale on eBay There's no way that these are circulating ones. Half the 2013 batch still hasn't been released, and those that have are being actively withdrawn. The only 2015 $5 notes you'll ever see are uncirculated ones designed specifically for collectors.

What happened with the RBA sales? I thought they only sold first and last prefixes now, and at a premium. I don't remember when I last got correspondence about buying notes though - might have been 2014.

Quote: What happened with the RBA sales? They stopped doing them after July/August 2014. So now the only way to get them is to pay inflated prices from dealers or hope that you are lucky enough to get them in your change

The latest Coin and Banknote magazine has an article that says that NPA says 'some' 2014 and 2015 $5 notes have been released into circulation. I'd be surprised if one doesn't turn up on ebay sooner or later.

I've got a few 2015 $5 and $10s of the general prefix if anyone is interested
fyi I've found 1x EA 2015 that you fortunately has been creased 3 times. It was noodled through $40k worth of $5 notes, I was doubting any made it to circulation at all

Doesn't seem the Reserve Bank are pulling the old banknotes, as I have only gotten 2 new ones in two months in change and am getting new old issue.

I don't blame them - the still do the job and it would be a bit of a waste.

Some dealers are claiming that the old $5 notes are now all being recalled and destroyed. I suspect they are saying that for their own purposes.
More trustworthy sources are saying that 2015 $5 notes are finding their way into circulation
