Hello! I am early in my transition as a collector from being merely an accumulator to attributing, die varieties, condition, etc. I have two questions about this coin: 1.) My guess is that this is a 1922 Plain Die Pair #1. Do you agree? 2.) Do you agree with my grading assessment of F15 (porous)? Obverse: Reverse: Year/Mintmark: Closeup: Thank you!

Is this yours? It does look like a 1922 No D, but its worn.

Those are a tough call. When you look at PCGS 'coinfacts' section they have a set of graded coins for that year and they look nothing like what you would grade them with a normal coin. MS-63 brown: http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/CoinIm....aspx?s=2537XF-40 brown: (Same link Drop down to find these images)

Yes, this coin is mine. I am slowly looking closer at previous coins that I've accumulated and/or passed down to me by my grandfather.
And yes -- I really struggle trying to grade this coin! It's tough to know what is wear and what is the result of weak/eroded die.

You might have to submit this one to get the final grade on it. That site I posted shows many images on the link of 1922-D and the one for the 1922 no D strong reverse. When you get to the screen with the info for that year, you need to choose the brown-red brown-red as all three choices will show you more coins. Some normal and some with a weak d or a weak reverse on the no 'D'. A lot to see there. I'm just scratching the surface and finding little gems along the way.

It does look like Die #1 to me.

Thanks. I looked at PGSCoinfacts images closer (especially this link: http://images.PCGS.com/CoinFacts/14...543_2200.jpg), and I think the F15 is a good grade for my coin. The linked coin has a little better details on the obverse, but my coin has much better details on the reverse.

Did you click on the link in the bottom center? It will enlarge the image even more. Almost 6,000 pixels wide. But they would have to grade your coin on coin wear, not die wear. That is the problem that year. Even a MS-63 coin looks like yours coin for die wear, not coin wear. http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/CoinIm....aspx?s=2537Coin tagged 3110 Quote: Grade 63 Cert# 81022519 Spec# 3110 Description 1922-D 1C Weak D, Brown

I see what you're saying, Thanks! Even the MS63 you referenced is missing a lot of the details in the wheat ears and a lot of the text from weak strike/poor die.
