Strange Looking Urbs Roma? Local Imitative?

Also the deer and romulus and remus below looks strange and the head on the other side aswell. Is this a local piece? Report this Post to the Staff

But mine looks different though. there is a point in the middle and the deer is much detailled in his skin. Normal you don't see this detailed on any urbs. If you're looking for a deer, then the figure on the reverse of an Urbs Roma is certainly going to look strange to you, since it is supposed to be a she-wolf. There appears to be a figure between the two stars on the reverse of your coin. Can you make out what it is? Perhaps a symbol of some sort? Two of the western mints used symbols in that spot for some of these coins. The artistry is rather crude, but the lettering is all correct and properly proportioned, so it might not be an imitative. ANd it looks exactly like this one from Jean elsen auction 112. But then more imitation likely. The style of the wolf is the same. And the sign between the stars looks more of the same aswell. RBS ROMA, AE follis, 313-314, Trèves. Droit : VRBS ROMA B. casque à gauche, vêtu du manteau imperial. Revers : TRP La louve allaitant les jumeaux. Au-dessus, une couronne entre deux etoiles.
