When your building your collection weather it be halves, quarters, or whatnot, which do you prefer, PL coins or business strikes? For me I have some PL halves and quarters and some business strikes in the mix...not just one or the other. But looking at the listings, it seems like mint state business strikes tend to go for more than it's non circulating PL counterparts.

business strikes in high grades are more expensive than PLs (except for the occasional year). For dollars, I like collecting PL. I like the sharper rims and mirror background. It's also easier to find those heavy cameos. But other than dollars, I'd go for business strikes

Early on I just bought a bunch of sets to get started since they were actually cheap. Now the mint sets are a bit much for what you get so I think business strikes are the way to go now. A lot of business strikes actually look quite flashy. That is something I liked about PL coins. Also I do have a couple of specimen coins in there. That particular strike is amazing. But in the grand scheme of things, I'll probably end up paying more for business strikes as I use ebay. They just aren't readily available to me as I live in Michigan. I do see a number of Canadian coins in my change however, but circulated stuff. It is a challenge and a pricey situation collecting foreign coins. By the time you tack on shipping from Canada and the long wait...ouch!

Force have you tried the big auction houses in the States they usually carry some nice Canadian content high end Mint State and Proof Like coins.
Another way to find nice high end coins is to original BU roll hunt here's a couple I found in the last couple of years.
The first is a 1968 25 cent MS-67

The second is a 1982 50 cent MS-67

Those are fine suggestions but I don't have access to rolls and I can't afford a high end collection from auctions.

Keep you eye on any decent shows in your area...You'll be able to pick up some good Canadian coins at a decent price ....

Also keep your eyes peeled.. there may be a few items on the buy / sell / trade section here as well
