Already had one of these but it was so cheap so I picked this one up.

The Western Satraps were from the Saka people and ruled in Western and Central India from circa 35 BC- 405 AD. They were around the same time that the Kushans ruled in Northern India and might have been vassals of them. They all fall under the term Indo-Scythians.

Visvasena ruled from 293-304 AD, he was the son of Bhartraman, not much is know about his rule.

The coin is an AR Drachm of Visvarsena as Kshatrapa.
The obverse is the king facing right with the date on the left edge of the coin.
The reverse is the three mount hill with with the Brahmi legend of: rajno mahakshatrapasa bhartrdamaputrasa rajno kshatrapasa visvasenasa. Which translates to: King Visvasena mahakshatrapa, son of king Bhartradaman mahakshatrapa.

Another nice Eastern pick-up there, Ron. It's interesting to me how despite the fact that the portraits on the drachms of the Western Satraps became so standardized from the early second through early fifth centuries, those of Visvasena managed to maintain some uniqueness. I suspect that he such a distinctive, Mr. Magoo-ish mug that the die engravers felt compelled to "deal with it" rather than entirely reduce it to the usual formula.

Nice pick-up Ron! I can see the three hills reasonably clearly, along with the stream below and a seven dot sun above. Sometimes there are one or two half-moons as well, but these are a bit flat on your example I think.

You know I approve

His coins are the only ones that don't require any legend at all!

I do wonder what the man looked like in real life, however....
