I saw a coin I really like today, and rather than wait for payday and risk it walking out with someone else, I'm thinking I might take the above coin, ANACS graded AU55 in. My coin is worth more, but I had planned to trade that one up when I saw something I liked better. I'm pretty sure I paid a bit less than book for it, so I think I should recover what I paid. (I could also take in a few more modest coins that I picked up just to establish a relationship with dealers I liked, but I'm pretty sure I paid book or a bit more for them, and I thought I'd hang onto them until silver goes up and see if I could recoup more of what I paid--feel free to tell me if I'm thinking wrong on this).

Does anybody have a Gray Sheet, and can you tell me what the ask/bid is for that coin and grade?

Also, when you bring a coin worth more than what they're asking for the coin you want, do dealers usually give the rest in cash or ask you to pick other coins to even the trade? I saw one other coin in the store I kind of like, but I really don't need both.

Thanks!!

Well,it looks like I'd take a bit of a hit on the gold coin if that's the bid for a 58. Hmm...

Anybody want to answer my other questions?

It probably depends on the dealer, but cash would be normal I'd think.

Gold is in the dumps right now and getting worse every day, now is not the best time to be selling unless it's a financial emergency. JMHO.

i'd say you're really excited and want this coin so you feel like doing what it takes to get it..I've been there and if you go through with a deal where that's how you fealt you will usually regret it and the coin will lose what attracted you to it and become a reminder of a bad deal. just hold off and think about it.
Feel free to call me Will.

Thanks, guys! I'd already rethought dumping the gold coin (not that there's much gold there--have you SEEN those puny things?). I do want to eventually trade up--keeping an eye out for a type 2 Indian Princess in good condition--just like the look of them more.

When I look at my coins, the ones I keep pulling out of the book to admire more fully are the beautifully toned Morgans and Buffaloes and my pretty Charles I halfpenny. This coin is like those. I have others I wouldn't mind trading up.

But I will sleep on it.
