This almost makes you want to work in a coin shop, but it would be conflict of interest for me.

An 1895 for $250? Wow.
I quit stacking silver because it was so heavy.
My dad's estate was tidier. No one in the family wanted any of it. All modern proofs, and it took about 15 minutes for the shop to appraise them and write a check.

That's a lot more organized than the coin shop I worked at!

I see this going down from time to time when visiting the local coin store. I'm always green with envy, and I try to peeking in without being too nosy. With the older generation passing on, the next couple of generations have little to zero interest in coin collecting.

These pictures were toward the beginning of sorting. We did find a few more good dollars. But there was a lot of Mid to lower grade dollars. There will be more sorting tomorrow. I am sure I will picked out a few coins to purchase. The 1895 is a S mint, I do need that one, and I did see a 1903 O that is still a empty hole in my Dansco. And it never hurts to pick up a few more Mercury dimes.

I am still thinking about this collection. Seeing how other organize their collection, always gets me thinking about mine. This collection was organized fairly well. But it really didn't give much information for the family members it was passed down to. There were three binders full of silver dollars and half dollars. Most of the coins were only labeled with the year. For example there were three Carson City Morgans that had no mention they were better value coins .... just the year no mint mark. I hope when I do passed down my collection, I have all the more valuable coins separated, with some, estimate of value. I get the feeling these coins were all pulled from circulation. But that is something we can't know for sure. I am looking forward to looking through the rest of this collection in the morning.

On one hand, this is very interesting and exciting. On the other, it has me thinking of my own mortality.

I am with the Coinguy... I see people get stuff looked at at my LCS and I try peeking without being too conspicuous. Usually it is silver/better halves/dollars that aren't my priority but every now and again something fun comes in... have fun going through that! Always cool to go through an old collection!
