A friend of my Mom's gave her this coin back in the '80's. The coin is otherwise in pretty good condition--been dinged a bit but still plenty of luster, etc., but someone stamped it with this emblem. Anybody know what that's all about?

The lines coming off the cap look like die cracks, by the way.

Anyway, so this is now a melter, right? OR does it still have a little numismatic value? Not planning to sell it--Mom loves the thing. Just for my own edification.

It's called a counter-stamped coin. Some people collect them but most likely worth melt.

That was my thought initially also, but I haven't seen any Masonic symbols exactly like that.
