Does anyone know if ICCS graded Canadian coins can go through the crossover at PCGS or is it graded from scratch as though the ICCS grade never existed?

As I understand it NGC coins are the ONLY TPG coins that can use the PCGS "Crossover" option. All others are treated as raw.

If that is the case would it be better to crack them out of the ICCS flips and send them in as raw or send them as is?

I cut them out - but carefully, as to leave the coin sealed inside the inner flip. PCGS treats them as raw, but I am ok with that. Good, problem-free coins in PCGS holders are worth in the long term, in my opinion.

@SPP-Ottawa, I could probably find the information in an internet search but seeing as you do it quite often, what does it cost per coin to submit to PCGS? is there a price difference for Canadian coins?
Feel free to call me Will.

Dollarman: Best to check the PCGS website as there are several different service levels and prices depending on the value of the coin that you are submitting.

Thanks for all the replies and info. Another question for those who may have experience sending ICCS graded coins for re-grade at PCGS. Is it likely that PCGS will grade at least what was given by ICCS or are they tougher?

Lenver...That depends how you define "tough". Beyond the nonsense that is often posted here claiming that PCGS will consistently grade Canadian coins numerous grades higher and having crossed both ways, here is what I find.
*First and foremost PCGS will not numerically grade problem coins (cleaned, polished, surface and edge damaged, etc...). In that sense they are SIGNIFICANTLY tougher. There are many ICCS coins that would never receive a PCGS grade. *On copper, PCGS will grade brown coins based on quality irrelevant of colour whereas ICCS seems to have a mental limit of MS63 for brown copper, (although that's slowly changing). PCGS on the other hand is stricter on "red". Many ICCS coins attributed as "red" would be RB in PCGS holders. *I find overall PCGS to be more consistent in grade assignments.
Bottom line is many feel that ICCS is tougher on grades (and that's probably often true) but ICCS is also very forgiving on surface flaws. I think there is a slight shift towards PCGS for higher grade quality coins not necessarily to achieve a higher grade but to have assurances that the coin is free of any flaws that can diminish the coin. All in my opinion of course.

ICCS grades are based primarily on the obverse condition, more so than the reverse. PCGS may take a more balanced approach.

The first time I sent coins down to PCGS, all in ICCS holders, almost half came back as "questionable colour", "damaged" or "details - cleaned". My original intent was to have fun in the PCGS registry sets... but that was a real eye-opener for me, I started paying more attention to the coin, and not the certificate with ICCS coins. It now means more patience, and being aggressive at the right time when I find a coin to fill a hole in the collection. http://www.PCGS.com/SetRegistry/all...spx?s=117576

Quote: Is there a price difference for Canadian coins? No, the different prices are for Modern coins and Error coins, or coins exceeding $3000 value.
