I stopped and picked up a circulated 1977 Ni Dollar,
looking at the SWL and then noted extra metal on the
right side of the island from the native's elbow to the
canoe. I have this also on a pristine PL coin so it
looks like a damaged die. The coin I bought circulated
looks like a SP strike, the other I bought from CA (shiny
in pics) is the PL strike. Extra metal looks like a die
crack, or a failure of some sort. The PL and Circulated
Dollar are both Detached Jewell varieties and the PL is
FWL the Circ SWL.

I see Rocky did a topic on the SWL and his has the same
thick metal on the island as well, are they all like
this?
