I recently came into possession of 7 Canadian quarters ranging from 1961 to 1968. All are well circulated.

Would someone please tell me the silver content for this range of years?

Thanks in advance!

All Canadian silver coins from 1920-64 are .800, so each face dollar (of any denomination) is .6 troy oz of silver. From 1919 back, all the silver was .925. In 1965-66 they were .800 and 1967-8 had both .800 and .500. Since the coins are circ and worn, you could expect 80-85% of scrap because they don't weigh what they did when struck.

Thanks. 3 are from 1968. Is there any easy way for me to tell if they're .800 or .500?

Other than XRF, I don't know of any other way to tell the difference. As I recall the mintage split was about 50/50. Some dealers now buy the 67 scrap quarters and dimes coins at a blended rate some just at .5. In 1968 we had a mix of nickel and .5 silver quarters. Just take a magnet to the three 68s. Non magnetic would indicate silver.

For 1961-66 they are .800 silver.
For 1967 there are .800 and .500 silver.
You could try an SG test for the '67s but no one cares what your results are and these are bought and sold as .650 silver content.
For 1968 there are only .500 silver and 1.00 nickel.
If it sticks to a magnet it's nickel.

You could try hearing them, though it's not always reliable. Drop them on a solid surface, or balance it on your knuckle and carefully tap it with another coin.
