I do not know where to start with these types of coins.

Ancient Roman, much easier.

Just picked this up in a random lot.

Any help, or pointing in a direction is greatly appreciated.

I have never seen that reverse before. Kinda looks like an upside typewriter.

Yeah, its not something I can even decipher on what it may be.

I can make out a Cross in the center of the Obverse, along with the letters of "EMRIK Cross M"

Perhaps something to note, The lower legs of R and K seem to be the same triangular shape the Cross is made up of.

I believe it is a fantasy/replica coin struck by a historical re-enactment group, such as the Society of Creative Anachronism. This one has an "obverse" somewhat loosely based on the extremely scarce Viking uniface "longship" coins - turn the bottom pic upside-down to see the ship.

I think you are onto something there Sap!

Most likely a reproduction. I'll keep my eye out and see if anything matches.

I agree with Sap as there is an SCA moneyer who goes by the name Emerich and this may be one of his pieces.

For comparison, with some of - perhaps - the type the ship side is emulating:

Nice work Sap--you nailed it!

After a bit of searching on the interwebs with that clue from @badger mint, I found your coin on Emerich's website. It is called Hedeby Viking Ship Coin"--scroll about a third of the way down.
