Clearly obvious doubling. I was going to keep it because it looked cool. Then I went to the store and I need 11 cents change. I used the penny I had just found, which I placed in its own pocket.this was in brooklyn ny. I still remeber the corner I was standing on when I found it in my coat pocket with a bunch of other change. I went home afterwards to look it up just for the heck of it. I almost died when I found out how rare they are. Now all I can do to make myself feel better about it is tell myself maybe it was a fake. It HAUNTS me. So I usually look through lincoln cents now. Omg though it haunts me all the time. Did I mention it haunts me?

What a bummer.
I had found myself a Henning & it eventually made itself back to the bank.

Wow. I appreciate your reply. I feel like anyone who is not at all into coins doesn't "get " it or doesn't believe me. I guess I just felt it was most likely nothing other than it looked cool so I gave it away to the guy at the register. Oh well. anyway that was enough to get me interested!

and yes, I am sure you are watching your Lincoln cents very closely now.

Perhaps something else will find it's way to you soon

If it makes you feel any better, you almost certainly had a 1969 with strong Machine Doubling instead of actual hub doubling. 1960s cents were plagued with worthless Machine Doubling, caused by slight twisting and movement of the die as the coin is struck. Many collectors confuse machine doubled coins for the very valuable 1969 doubled die.

Thank you but I firmly believe I had the real deal. It was eye catching. No "wanna be"
