Did these Walkers sell for under silver melt?Mike[:0]

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...m=8348184564 1.35 oz.@$8.07 per oz=$10.89

Please tell me if I'm figuring wrong. .45 of an oz silver per coin times three = 1.35 oz times $8.07 per oz = $10.89. Shippiong $3.48, paid $6.42, grand total....$9.90
Rest in Peace

Yeah, but... to sell three halves for melt, they'd have to be transported or sent someplace and chances are the vendor who buys them for their silver is gonna take a discount. Would cost more to send them or drive them to a silver merchant than they'd be worth. I'm not sure what the break-even point would be in weight of silver to make it worthwhile for a person with a lot of junk silver, but it would have to be more than three halves.

My little bullion chart in the RedBook says that the 90% silver halves have only .36 oz. of Siver. (not .45) So the winner paid a little over melt, but not bad for Walkers.

oops, siver=sliver=silver!

Thanks adobero1 and Fred. I knew it was low volume, but at least they sold for melt! Do you have a little list you could post with the amount of silver and gold in American coins? I always thought dollars, halves, quarters and dimes pre-1965 were 90% silver. Based on your chart it would be 72% silver. Thanks for the info! Mike

Well, the only list I have is from the RedBook and agrees with what Susan posted above. Pre 1965's are 90%. Not sure where the discrepancy lies...maybe the halves don't weigh as much as you're thinking...in other words, I don't think a half dollar weighs half an ounce.
