Someone made a soft die from a coin and pressed it onto your coin. If this were really a doubled strike, the reverse would show the same thing and the rotation of the reverse would be in correct alignment with the obverse second strike. This is an alteration of your coin. It wasn't struck that way.

Coop,

If a soft die were used they would have to make a soft die of a soft die. The second image is incused. How did the get the original roller lines to remain in the incused portion of the coin and not so much in the normally struck area of coin?

Is the weight normal for this coin? With the close up, I may have changed my mind of this one. I send Mike Diamond a note on it. The first new image of the date area ran a new possibility for this one. See what Mike says on this one?

This is a genuine error. What you have is a cent struck through the detached and shifted bottom of a late-stage die cap. The normally-oriented incuse design elements are a common feature of such errors

Just got back home. The coin weights exactly 2.50 grams. I have seen several smashed cents and this one did not have the same appearance. Thanks All. Still Lookin.

As to value, I would guess $100 - $125. It's an unusually clear example of this error type.
