Hope everyone is well. First time poster :) I had just received this toonie as change from a coffee shop. I didn't know what to make of it until my wife stated that it could be a mint error. Never heard of such a thing until doing more research. I just wanted to know what you guys thought of this toonie. Any info would be great. Sorry in advance for the poor photos

I think it's a PMD (post mint damage). It looks like someone tried to sand that face off completely. The lines going in the circular direction give me that feeling.

Looks like the obverse has been ground down using a grinder...

Not sure if it matters, but this toonie seems to be slightly bigger than the normal toonie.

Clearer image of the Queen if possible.

clearer images of the queen will definitely help. There's a second date to the left of the original date so if you can get a close up picture there too, that'd be helpful for us

not some kind of a doubling effect or anything, I believe what you see is the commemorative 2002 obverse reading 1952-2002.
Feel free to call me Will.

Vonage I have 2 toonies super thin. I have toonie that has a rim on one side. none on the otherside. the second toonie has rims on both side super thin. if you can find some one near you. that knows how to do focus stacking. you can get a very high resolution image of your coin. which will show those details that are missing. so you can figure out what happened to your coin. focus stacking about 40 images. it will raise the detail you would have your answer. if someone took a grinder. to your coin it will show that as well. somebody with a railstacker. could really help here.

I think before we call this 100% PMD we need the weight of the coin.

A pic with a regular old toonie side by side will answer most of the questions.

Hey, The weight on both coins seem to be the same. 0.25oz or 7 grams (not sure if any of these would be the proper unit of measurement).

7.3 GRAMS is the correct weight for pre 2012 toonies, my guess it's grounded down, unless you weighed the 1996 and the odd toonie on the same scale and both read 7 grams

Yes, I weighed them both separately on the same scale.

So the scale is off, looks like a largest strike through grease maybe if so worth something.
