Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have a 1921 Morgan S I'm having problems identifying. It is in fantastic condition with a mirror finish.
What confuses me is it is gold gilded in the raised parts of the coin. I can't seem to find any comps on this.
Is it a repo? Counterfeit?
Thanks in advance for any info on this.

. The gold plating was done after the coin was minted.

With such an alteration it keeps the value of this coin in the $18-20 range.

It is a curiosity and most collectors would only buy it if it was sold near its intrinsic value (silver value).

Thanks Moxking. That's what I was afraid of. I personally own a scrap metal business with the capability to remove the gold from silver. We do it all the time with jewelry. Is this acceptable to do with this coin?

I see no reason to strip it. You wouldn't get $2 in gold. Just sell it to someone who likes it for $20 and you should both be happy.

At $20 dollars its not even worth the time listing it on ebay. In the scrap pile it will go.

I agree. But if you offer it to another person in person you might find someone would be thrilled with it.
