I've heard there's a lower mintage of these coins but does it matter if it's circulated? Thanks...

I can't say for certain... but they had been minting the lucky loonie for awhile.. but only started the regular issue of 2016 loonies in Oct.

Maybe just keep them until you know the mintage and demand as a collectors coin.

Mintage of the 2016 lucky loonie is 5 million. There is no chance that a circulated LL coin would ever be worth more than a dollar (barring some error) especially given that the mint sold uncirculated versions in special packages for face value.
As was noted, there is a theory that the 2016 regular loonies may turn out be low mintage.

So there is a regular 2016 loonie besides the lucky loonie?

Regular loonie has lower mintage, might be better getting them instead if you're only after an investment in a potential key date

I wasn't sure of the regular loonie. I guess it's always a challenge to keep up with the current year, not knowing mintage or errors and that's the fun of collecting!

Took a chance ordered some 2016 regular design loonies from Winnipeg, ended up costing about 10% for charges and shipping, manufacturing date was Sept 6 kind of late for 2016 production

who knows the mint can crank out a lot of loonies in a short time with the speed they can do

Talking to Winnipeg, they only mint to demand so if there's very little demand for say the loonie from the three main districts across Canada they don't produce. IN the Southern Ontario region most banks do their own recycle of coinage so very few need for new orders because they have to pay shipping which is costly. Apparently the Winnipeg mint is really busy with foreign contracts, taking the tour in 2013, asked guide they can produce over 200 loonies a minute on a Shuler presses, even as someone else mentioned 2 skids of 100 boxes each is 2 million coins, a relatively low mintage for a loonie if true.

John100 a box of loonies holds 1000 loonies, I got one from the bank a few years back.
So you must mean 100 cases per skid is 100 000 not 1 million, means 2 skids is 200 000.
If that's true, it would have about half the mintage of a 1991 quarter. If I can get one for the collection I'l be happy, prob won't find in change by the looks of it if this is all true

Well you could always message who's a member here and also lives in Winnipeg to go pick you up some coins from the mint.... if you have a strong hankering...
Or you can order from C.A. ... I think they're selling 'em for $34 a roll... or so... question is.. does that include free shipping? If so that's not a bad deal either really!

Yes there is a 1000 loonies per box, so I tried to elicit some mintage info on these loonies all I can gather was there is lots, what is lots? Maybe somebody in Winnipeg who is a regular customer at the boutique can get us a better answer. One would guess a skid would hold about 200 boxes due to weight constrictions for shipping

A box of 1000 would weigh about 14 pounds or 6.3 kilos. But that still doesn't indicate how many have bee minted. I bought a roll a while back @ 34.95 plus shipping, now it's just a matter of wait and see. I don't regret my purchase as it's November and I haven't seen any in the wild. Yet for all we know they could be cranking out millions as we post right now.

Perhaps if I have the time ... I'll go to the mint and have a look around to see what they're putting out.. I also have a friend who works there coming over tonight... I'll ask him how many loonies he has seen getting cranked out...
