Here is a 75mm Thomas Jefferson Indian Peace medal that was made for collectors in bronze. The original pieces were hollow silver shells and are wicked rare today. This was the medium size variety. They were also 105 mm and 50 or 55 mm. This is most common size in bronze.

The dies from this piece were held by the military and packed in grease. They are handed over the mint before the Civil War and unknown numbers were made before the mint started keeping tabs on them. Many have the die break seen on this one at 2 o'clock. The reverse die was replaced by Charles Barber circa 1886. The pointed top "A"s are also an indicator of the original die pair.

This design was inspiration for the design of the 1903 Jefferson St. Louis Exposition gold dollar. The piece is housed in an NGC medal slab which accounts for the reflections in the photos.

Beautiful example. I sold one through Heritage about 3 years ago with strong bidding.

This one's a beauty, Bill. I'm a fan of these high relief, reddish bronze pieces.

The die break is quite prominent, ominously striking through the peace pipe and into the hand of the Native American. Sadly, peace and friendship were largely absent throughout the nineteenth century.
