Can anyone tell me anything about this dime? Is it a rare coin or worth more than ten cents?

May have been in the ground for a while. They are known to turn this color.

I really don't think that's the case since the copper side of the coin is very shiny like a new penny.

Looks to be very well toned. Improper storage (paper with acid + humidity and heat) will cause the clad layer to discolor without necessarily affecting the luster. From what I have seen, genuine errors of this type are very mushy because the machine is not calibrated to strike the pure copper core.

It would also be significantly underweight. Do you have access to a jeweler's scale that can measure 0.01g increments?

No, unfortunately I don't have access to a jeweler's scale.

Looks like a dime that was found outdoors. If you can see silver on the coin, that is where the color has worn off the dime. This doesn't happen on a missing cladding. The dime collar is too small to accept a cent into it. note the reeds on the edge? They would not be there if it were a cent planchet.

with the concensus however your single best tool for these type of errors is a scale-can pick one up for around 10$-normal dime weighs 2.26. Also if it were missing both clad layers the strike would be weaker due to the thinner planchet
