I have finally learn to make "decent" photographs to my coins, so I´m gonna show my recent acquisition from ebay. I will start with 2 Pengo from Hungary (1938, KM#511), a common coin with a beautiful design. In my opinion in 1900-1939 were produced the most interesting designs in the world of european coins. And hungarian coins aren´t a exception. I know that there were no bimetalic coins, and "not round" shapes but they had more... life , if you understand what I want to say .

Beautiful coin. I have to agree with you on best design period. It's also my favourite. You can't beat silver coins from the 1930's especially (just my opinion).

As for bi-metallic coins, I am not a big fan. They seem somehow cheap and a bit tacky. Again, just my opinion.

Then of course the non round coins and especially non-symmetrical, like the guitar shaped ones or the map of Europe. Please, are they really even coins at that point? Not in my opinion.

I'm sure there are people who love them, I guess I am too much of a traditionalist.

Very nice pick-up. And if you like the Angel design the 5 pengo isn't too shabby either.

G'day, I'm a fan of the Art-Deco movement. You see its influence in a lot of European coins of the 1920s & 1930s.
Many coins are designed on a largely utilitarian basis, but that was an era when beauty was a goal also, it seems to me.

Yes, it was an era when beauty was a goal, have a look to Albanian coins from this period if you don´t think so. Moreover, coins were used as a image of the countries in the world, a way of representation.

The most interesting thing is that you can divide european designs in 4-5 styles, related with political system, location and history.
