I took a tour of the old Mexico City (MO) Mint in and it was filled with all kinds of old coin minting machines from the 1700's. Does anyone know what this particular one was used for in the coin making process. Thanks a bunch!

Well has a large flywheel for power, the working portion looks to be something on a toggle that moves up and down. It also has a flat table on ether side at close to the same level as the table area in the machine. I would suspect a blanking press. Not for blanking multiple blanks at on time from a wide strip but larger individual blanks from a narrow strip. (Silver strip in the US Mint in the 19th century was only about 2 inches wide.)

I don't know exactly what it is but there is another just like it behind it in the background. Probably some kind of a punch press with the power behind it to get the job done.

It also looks like it could easily mess a hand, fingers, or an eye up pretty quick!

Near it there was a square foot of about quarter sized punched out webbing. I'm sure not original but probably just to give an idea. I think your right about it being a punch for blanks.

From the pictures, it looks like it is oozing out playdoh. It is always interesting looking at old minting machines and you realize why, back then, you could not have a mintage of 400 million coins like they do today.
