1966 Nickel Ponytail Error?

I noticed on this nickel the part of Jefferson's ponytail closest to his collar is missing. The area is as flat as the other flat surfaces of the coin. I have put it next to another 1966 nickel in the photo. The coin I am questioning is on the left. I don't think this is Die Deterioration since the rest of the image is strong. But then again I am still learning. I'm just wondering what could have caused this and if it is considered an error. Thank you in advance for the input.

That means the die was over polished on just one area so much it removed part of the lower-mid devices on the die in that area. Just the deeper devices were untouched. So it isn't from normal die wear, but over polished on that one area. Must have been something wrong with the die in that area. Heavy die dent or very strong die gouge.

You can see it on the front of the bust and neck area also.
