I have the opportunity to bring this home and wanted to get some thoughts as to grade and authenticity. AG3 seem about right? It feels right and nothing is jumping out at me but what do you all think? I know it is a very rare date/mm what is a good price for this glaring hole in my Dansco? Thanks in advance!

I'm at a good maybe details. The only thing that draws a red flag is that there is a smudge and spot right where a mintmark could be. Granted the 1894 P is the second lowest mintage, I'd get more opinions. People have altered 1894 O and S to make it appear a genuine 1894 P. If you do buy it I highly recommend getting it authenticated asap.

 The area near MM is highly suspicious. This is one date I would not buy raw.

I agree that the lighter "squiggle" where the mint mark would have been is a little suspicious. At the very least I'd want to look at that area very closely.

I think this was originally an 1894-O mint Morgan dollar. Run Forrest, run!

I would want the purchase price so low .. that it would be worth taking a chance.

Cboyera, The denticles are too worn to determine the correct position from the base of the neck. The wear also would make it impossible to see the die gouges between the right leg and the tail indicative of the 94 P. The 94 appears to be intact. The MM area is suspicious. I have passed on 2 raw coins I knew were suspicious and 1 graded coin that had the MM area that did not seem right. I would save the $ to get a graded coin in better condition. Good Luck, AG.

With a grade this low there is a good chance the coin has been altered. I would pass on it.

Helps to have a good relationship with sellers! I got the opportunity to purchase this with a 100% money back guarantee if it body bagged with PCGS. However...no need to take the seller up on it as it straight graded G04 with PCGS! I guess it won't fill a hole in my Dansco but a hole in the collection!
